OSC Volleyball

The new fall season of coed volleyball has now started, and I want to thank everyone who tried out and all who will be playing this session. Our leagues are improving and becoming very popular in the Omaha area. This popularity is leading to the shuffling of players between the leagues, and we are finding there now is more competition for spots. This brings up the subject of applications; when you apply each session, be sure you mark all the leagues you would be willing to play, especially because at the next tryouts in January we will not be asking anyone if they would be willing to drop down and play leagues they didn’t sign up for.

If it were not for all of the wonderful people who come forward and volunteer their assistance, I would not continue to run volleyball. Therefore, I would like to thank the following people, some of whom I also have thanked in earlier articles.

First, I want to thank Christine Shank. She is one of those people who does so much for volleyball and the club but you would never know it because she does a lot behind the scenes. Honestly, though, if it were not for her help, we might not have had a league this session.

I also want to thank the many volunteers who helped at the tryouts during the first week in September: Cyndee Kanable, Mark Nelson, Kris Kubicek, Rob Smith, Anne Nelson, Mark Nelson, Carol Martinez, Mike Feilmeier, Kate Jones, Padraic McElroy, and Ken Ferguson.

More thanks go out to our league managers: Lori Shields (AA), Ken Curran (A), Anthony Theisen (BB), Denise Hamilton (B), Anne Nelson (B1), and Don Kusek (B2). They will be keeping their respective leagues organized and making certain their stats are up to date so we can see how each league’s teams are fairing.

Our mid-season get-together, arranged by Jon Juhler and hosted by AA league, will be October 21 at Muldoon’s Pub, from 6:30 p.m. until close. The bar will have some great drink specials just for us. Muldoon’s is located at 12143 West Center Rd.

Lastly, remember to treat our gyms with respect and to clean up after yourselves. We must not wear street shoes to play in, as they scuff the floors. Also, remember that our referees are human and may not be able to see everything because we have only one ref. per court. Please treat them with respect—we need the refs.—and be courteous to them and your fellow players. We do not want anyone to get hurt or miss any after game parties, so be careful, too.

Take care and see you on the court,
Joe Martinez
