Next Happy Hour - May 9th @ The RedEye Tavern

May Happy Hour

The Red-Eye Tavern, 85th & Center
Friday, May 9th

I hope everyone enjoyed the last happy hour at Mic’s. It was for you!

This month, we will return to “The Red-Eye” for our annual warm weather kick-off in the outdoor beer garden—and we all know the weather will be perfect!  This has always been one of the club’s liveliest and most fun-filled (and best attended) gatherings of the year. You know it’s going to be a blast! In addition to great weather, we can expect the owner, Wayne, to have his new kitchen open and offering great bar food. He promised we wouldn’t be disappointed.

Wayne’s also offering drink specials in the amount of fifty cents off all drinks, a dollar and fifty cents off all pitchers—and for all of you beer purists—a dollar and fifty cents for Busch Lites, both pints and bottles. Happy days are here again!!

You don’t want to miss this—especially you golfers at Elmwood. Brag about your game at the Red-Eye afterward. Someone will be sure to listen. Honest. You’re all invited. I’d love to see some
new faces at this happy hour, too, as well as some we haven’t seen in a while. Come on over to “The Eye.”

Wallyball news - May 2008

Landslide Victory Ends Wallyball Season

The Wallyball season has come to an end, but what a great ending it was.  Isaac Ramos and Stacy Morton won the league by a landslide.  Congratulations to both for well-earned wins.  Congratulations also to Isaac Ramos and Melanie Karst for winning the tournament on March 30th.  We had a good turnout and a lot of fun, which continued with pizza, beer, pop, and prizes at Mamas after the tournament.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the league this year. Everything went fairly smoothly thanks to everybody’s recruiting efforts, help setting up equipment, and running the league when I was on vacation. I also really appreciate everyone who got their own subs. With the limited number of people playing, it’s tough, but it’s the responsible thing to do.

Next session, Kristen McKenney will be stepping up to run Wallyball. She will do a great job, and we’ll try not to give her too much grief . Thanks Kristen!

In another few months, look in the Sportscaster for a wallyball article with a sign-up sheet for fall session. The league will be happy to accommodate more full-time players and subs. In the meantime, have a great spring and summer!

Volleyball news - May 2008

Omaha Sports Club Volleyball News

The OSC volleyball mission statement says that the club strives to create a fun atmosphere where players can make new friends, enjoy old friends, and have a great time playing volleyball year-round. Those words say a great deal and should be remembered every time you prepare to play OSC volleyball. Have fun—it is a game you chose to play. Be friendly and you will make it fun for others. Lastly, take the time to get to know the players on your team and those you are playing against. You never know, you might create a long-lasting friendship. Also, get involved in the operations of our leagues. Help to create and sustain the best leagues around.
At this time, I want to congratulate all of the winning spring session teams; their pictures and the names of their players are on this and the following page. If some pictures are missing, we apologize in advance. At the time this article was written, some leagues still have not finished their seasons. The pictures of those winning teams will be printed in next month’s Sportscaster.

The spring end-of-season party was well attended and enjoyed by all (see the pictures, which follow those of the winners). Thanks to Dana and his fantastic staff at Johnny Sortino’s Pizza Parlor. Thanks too to Judy Anderson who once again reached out to our community for some awesome prizes that some lucky players were fortunate to win. Great job, Judy; thanks so very much.

Lastly, I want to thank Nancy Thurston for volunteering to help Jennifer Lange with referee duties this summer. Our club continues to run because of members like Nancy who lend a hand when needed. Please remember that volunteers run our club, and it may not survive if we continue to rely on same few people to run all of our activities all of the time. If you would like to volunteer to help with either our leagues or the club, call or write me today.

Best wishes to each and every one of you for a happy and safe summer season.
